Professional Experience
Canon Development Americas, Inc., Irvine, California, USA
Researcher/Senior Engineer, June 2004 ~ present
He has been establishing and supervising collaborative research projects between Canon and top U.S. research institutes, in the area of electro-optical devices and systems. His exceptional contribution was recognized by the 2005 Canon Americas Spirit Award. It is one of the highest recognitions within the Canon Americas Group. Out of 30,000+ Canon Americas employees, there were only 37 honorees in year 2005.
University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, USA
Graduate Research Assistant, May 2000~ June 2004
The primary focus of his Ph.D. thesis research was photonic crystal microcavity lasers and laser arrays, in the Micro Photonic Device Group (MPDG) led by Prof. John D. O'Brien. In close collaboration with Professor P. Daniel Dapkus’ Compound Semiconductor Lab (CSL), he was in charge of the device fabrication and characterization for photonic crystal microcavity lasers, including developing fabrication recipes and establishing the optical characterization systems. He was also actively participating in the design and theoretical modeling of photonic crystal lasers and waveguides. During this period, his research activities were supported by several research funds from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Army Research Office (ARO), and National Science Foundation (NSF).
Surface Physics Laboratory in Fudan University, Shanghai, P.R.China
Research Assistant, Sept 1997~Jan 1999
In Professor X. Y. Hou’s lab, his work included building a computerized 8-channel precision temperature controlling system for the effusion cells on a molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) system. He also assisted the fabrication and characterization of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). He joined the lab at the end of his junior year, owing to his outstanding academic records including publishing a research article in his undergraduate senior year.
